Ireland should be the destination for your next surf holiday
When people think of surfing, they may not immediately think of Ireland. However, our Island is home to some of the best surf spots in Europe and attracts surfers from around the world.
If you're planning a surf holiday in Ireland, the best time to go is from April to September. During these months, the weather is typically milder, and the water temperature is more comfortable for surfing.
In April and May, the water temperature can range from 9-12°C (48-54°F), so a good wetsuit is essential. However, this time of year can offer some great swells and fewer crowds in the water.
June through August are considered peak season for surfing in Ireland due to warmer water temperatures ranging between 13-16°C (55-61°F). It's also when many surf schools and camps are open with plenty of options for lessons or guided surf tours. However, it's also the busiest time of year, so be prepared for more crowded line-ups.
At Wild Atlantic Surf Co, we love to see people try and take up surfing and with that in mind we are stoked to have Active Adventures NI as our first officially endorsed Surf School. For more information and to check them out click here.
September offers a quieter atmosphere for surfing while still enjoying mild weather conditions with an average water temperature around 15°C (59°F). This is also when you can catch the tail end of summer swells that continue into early autumn.
It's important to note that Ireland's weather can be unpredictable at any time of year, so it's always best to come prepared with proper gear for all types of conditions such as our Wet & Dry Changing Robe. But overall, if you want to experience some of Europe's best waves in a unique setting among friendly locals and rich culture - plan your Irish surf trip during April to September!
