Conor Maguire was nominated for six World Surf League Big Wave Awards since 2015 and recognised by the Big Wave World Tour with three nominations in three different categories at the 2016 of the surfing body’s 2016 awards.

He grew up in Bundoran, gaining fame as one of the big wave chargers at Mullaghmore. In 2017 he also received the prestigious honour of XXL nominations and finished in the top five in the Tube Of The Year category at the Big Wave Awards. All those accolades made him the youngest European to be shortlisted for the World Surf League Big Wave Awards.

The 2017/2018 season saw Maguire receive an invite to the world-renowned Punta de Galiea XXL, which will surely open the door for yet more big events in the future.

As Conor has said of surfing in Ireland, "We’re extremely privileged to have some of the best waves in Europe on our doorstep along with some really good surfers. This has helped me progress over the years and has encouraged me to surf bigger waves. The surrounding hinterland is absolutely stunning and is the perfect place for an adventurous mind to wander. Luckily, like minded people are also drawn to and live in the area so there is never a shortage of people to go exploring with." Slightly outside of his regular haunts, this recent footage shows Conor with his first 'Strike' mission with the Red Bull surfing team, in Namibia. Filmed by Alex Laurel who captures the journey, documenting the frustrations of the journey leading to the rewarding balance of the mind-blowing excitement of a Skeleton Bay barrel.
